St Stephen’s School Breakfast Club aims to provide pupils of all ages with a safe and fun place to start their school day. Breakfast Club is open to all pupils and we will do our best to accommodate the needs of your child. If your child has special needs/disabilities and requires extra support, please discuss this with Breakfast Club staff.
The club is informal and friendly, allowing children a choice as to how they start the day: some children like to wake up slowly, others prefer to get on and play. The club provides for both, quiet space (for reading, etc.) and a free play area, as well as more structured activities. Play, rather than education, is at the heart of the club.
Each morning a nutritious breakfast is provided. The children are encouraged to help themselves, sit down and talk together, and then clear up their dishes: the idea is that our breakfast replicates as far as possible the atmosphere of a family meal. At the end of the session, the children are well fed, happy and ready to learn.
Breakfast Club has a fixed cost of £4.00 per session, which includes a choice of breakfast and fun activities. The cost does not change depending on the time you arrive or if you choose not to have breakfast with us.
Bookings can only be accepted for children who have registered for Breakfast Club. Registration forms are available from the school office or the club. Completed forms should be returned to the office or the club prior to booking your child's first session.
Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis to those that hand in their booking form and payment first. Please book a place with Parent Pay.
Parents also have the flexibility to book ad-hoc sessions, where places are available, but the Breakfast Club requires a minimum of 24 hours notice.
Payment is required at the time of booking via ParentPay.
It is vital you inform us if your child is not attending the club, including through illness.
If you wish to cancel a session your child is booked for please let us know as soon as you can, so that the places can be given to other children. Please note that refunds are only available if one week’s notice, in writing, to cancel a place has been given.
Please contact us if you have any questions or need to change your bookings.
We are open from 7.45-8.50am every weekday during term time (excluding Inset days). Your child(ren) can be dropped off at any time between these times via the gate at the back of the hall
“I like Breakfast Club because we have lots of breakfast to choose from and there are lots of games and equipment”.
“In the morning whenever my mum or dad says it’s Breakfast Club today I always run up the hill”.
“I Like Breakfast Club because we get to go outside and play football. And it is really good for the grown ups”.
We serve breakfast until 8.30am. Please ensure your child arrives in plenty of time if you wish them to eat with us.
It is vital that children attending Breakfast Club are signed in. Children in Reception, Year 1, 2 and must be signed in by their parents, whereas children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 can sign themselves in, with prior permission from their parents.
We provide unlimited food and we encourage all children to eat and drink something. Everyday we offer:
Occasionally, the menu is supplemented with seasonal treats: different bakery goods; porridge; yoghurts; or foods from around the world to reflect the curriculum in school; and even a cooked breakfast.
Where possible, any special diets will be catered for. We also look for opportunities for the children to cook and prepare food, as appropriate.
The Breakfast Club is run by four staff members: April Forder (Playworker), Cathy Buckingham (Playworker) and Janette Doyle (Playworker).
All members of staff are DBS-checked and hold appropriate qualifications in first aid, food hygiene, child and play work. In addition, at least one member of the school staff is always on site in case of emergency.
We aim for each child to be happy and comfortable at the breakfast club. You can help us by providing as much information as possible about their likes/dislikes on their registration form.
Any information relevant to a particular day can be discussed briefly at drop-off. If you have any more detailed issues that you would like to discuss with club staff, then you can arrange a mutually convenient time for a telephone call or short meeting outside of club operation times.
As you will appreciate, the breakfast club staff have several children to look after and cannot pass individual messages on to class teachers. If there is something that the class teacher needs to know, then please write a note or call the school office.
If you have any concerns about the way the club is being operated, please raise them in the first instance, with the Headteacher.
