Home Learning

  • Children in any year group who are remaining at home continue to receive home learning menus and are able to access Teams.
  • Staff who are unable to be in school make up the Home Learning Team to ensure this important aspect of our school continues uninterrupted.
  • Learning Menus form the backbone of our learning for the children in school to continue that consistency across our school family.

Well-being

  • The Bath and Wells Multi-Academy Trust has commissioned a programme of support based around the Anxiety Gremlin books, by Kate Collins-Donnelly. All staff have received training on working with the resource and it is fed into the sessions as the children return to school. It continues to influence our approach for supporting children emotionally in the long-term.
  • Play time, and additional outdoor time, are timetabled and wherever possible we use our grounds to enhance children’s learning and well-being.
  • In class, teachers balance learning with providing time to talk and reflect as appropriate.
  • We remain extremely mindful of the emotional challenges the current restrictions may have for children and our staff are doing everything possible to ensure school remains a fun and happy place to be. 

Social Distancing

We promote behaviours and establish processes and approaches which work towards maintaining a social distance of 2 metres. Where a 2 metre distance is not achievable, we have taken reasonable and proportionate steps to mitigate risk.

  • Floor markers in the foyer and signs promote the 2 metre social distancing message for visitors.
  • Children are actively encouraged to be aware of, and maintain, social distancing.
  • Classroom layouts are designed to maximise the space between children, and desk spaces are used whenever practical.
  • When lining up, children are taught to ensure they are at least an arm’s length behind the person in front of them.
  • Movement in and out of classrooms is carefully managed to avoid ‘bottlenecks’
  • Start and end times, entry and exit points to school, play spaces and play times are co-ordinated to avoid crowding (more detail below).
  • Toilets are ‘1 in, 1 out’ and markers on the floor of the corridor indicate where children should stand if waiting. (If a younger child is in danger of having an accident, an adult will direct them to an available cubicle, even if the adjacent one is in use).

Hygiene

  • Every classroom is fitted with a hand sanitiser dispenser.
  • A hands-free dispenser is installed in the entrance porch.
  • An outdoor hand cleaning station is used by children before they re-enter the building.
  • A routine of frequent handwashing is established as part of the children’s induction process on the first morning back.
  • Older children are using Chromebooks (laptops). They are allotted a specific device and have sole use of that device.
  • Every child has a zip-bag of stationary which is named and stays in their classroom.

Cleaning

  • All cleaning and hygiene products have been sourced through the trust and are Covid-19 compliant.
  • All areas are cleaned every evening, with an additional thorough clean on Wednesdays.
  • Staff are provided with wipes and spray for regular cleaning of switches, furniture etc so this can also be carried out during the day whilst the children are in the room.
  • Corridor door handles, bannisters, light switches etc are cleaned three times a day

PPE for staff

  • PPE (masks, gloves and aprons) are made available for staff.
  • PPE will be available in the medical room so staff can use it when taking temperatures, administering first aid or providing intimate care.
  • Other measure, for example protective screens, have been installed where appropriate.

School Organisation

  • Each class group (see ‘School Organisation’ below) exists as a ‘bubble’. Children will never move between ‘bubbles’, and adults will not move between two or more bubbles in a single day unless in an emergency situation.
  • In line with government guidance, group size do not exceed 15 children.
  • We have taken into account staff availability, parental requests for preferred ends of the week and the needs of individual children when putting together the group lists. We have also considered friendship groups where possible. Once the lists are created they cannot be changed. 
  • Your child may not be taught by their usual teacher and we understand that this could potentially cause some anxiety. Please rest assured that our priority will always be your child’s well-being and we will spend lots of time in class helping them to feel safe, settled and happy

Guidance states that a member of staff could work with two different groups, and also that two members of staff could work with a single group. However, staff don't move from group to group in a single day, and admin staff, Mr Bowman and Ms Flynn do not enter classrooms unless they are assigned to teach that group, or an emergency situation leaves no alternative.

Key Worker Group

In order to prevent children moving between class groups, key worker parents who request a place are asked to choose between one of the following options:

Option 1: Up to two consecutive days of provision per week (ie Monday and Tuesday or Thursday Friday). These are the same two days each week and are accommodated within the child's class group.

Option 2: The child remains exclusively part of the key worker group, which includes children from different year groups. This means they have no contact with the non-key worker children in their own year group.

Option 3: The child is allocated a class group within their year group and on the days that the rest of their class group is not in school, they remain supervised, but separate to the rest of the children. We call these 'sub-bubbles'.

  • Please ensure that you are socially distancing whilst waiting to drop off or pick up your child.  
  • To prevent unnecessary visitors into the foyer, please ensure your child arrives punctually so they can enter with their class.  
  • In order to maintain social distancing, children have to come into school independently as no parents/carers are allowed inside the school building. Unfortunately, this means adults are not be able ‘coax’ children in as we usually would do so if your child is nervous or even upset we ask you to settle them before they are handed over to us. If this means you need to take them for a quick walk around the green, your child’s teacher will phone down to the office so we know to expect you at the front door when they are ready to come in.  


Playtimes

  • Outdoor spaces is timetabled for PE and playtime. The field is divided into two, with a gap between the sections, to enable two groups to use it at the same time.
  • Playtimes are staggered.
  • Although children do not mix between their class groups to play, both year group groups are outside at the same time to enable them to wave and communicate with their friends in the other group.

Lunchtimes

  • Children eat a packed lunch in the classroom, supervised by their teacher.
  • Parents are able to order a school packed lunch via parentpay which is delivered to the classroom door.
  • At their designated time, having eaten their lunch, the class group has supervised play outside (weather permitting). Lunchtime staff supervise this.

Equipment

  • Shared classroom equipment (eg construction kits or maths equipment) are limited to three sets per class and are cleaned after every use.
  • Reading books are given out for the week, and ‘Book Corner’ books are boxed, one box exclusively for each group.
  • Each group has a set of PE and playground equipment for their exclusive use. 

Communication with school 

  • Please avoid unannounced visits. If you have a question or need to get a message to a member of staff, please phone or email rather than coming into school.  

 Clothing 

  • We would like the children to wear their normal school uniform (with the exceptions below), which should be clean on every day. 
  • If not all uniform items are cleaned and ready to be worn one morning, please don’t worry – a non-uniform item of clothing will be fine.  
  • If your child has had a growth spurt since they were last in school, please do not buy shoes or other items of clothing especially for these last few weeks. Again, an appropriate non-uniform replacement will be fine.  

 Equipment 

  • Children must not bring toys or similar items into school. 
  • Reading books are sent home once a week and stay at home for the rest of the week so bookbags are only needed on your child’s first day of the week in school. 
  • All equipment is provided – the children each have an individual set of stationary so mustn’t bring a pencil case in. 
  • A new learning book is provided, so their home learning book should stay at home.  

 Your child must bring: 

  • A water bottle – whilst they are able to fill it with drinking water as much as they need to, the water fountains are not working and we are not able to provide a bottle for them.  
  • A waterproof coat and a sun hat – outdoor time is essential and prioritised, whatever the weather! 
  • If your child brings a packed lunch, it will be stored under their individual desk until needed.  

 Dinners 

  • School dinners can be ordered in the usual way via Parentpay. 
  • School dinners take the form of a cold packed lunch and are delivered to the classroom.  

 Behaviour  

  • Children are given support, guidance and positive encouragement in order to help them adjust to our expectations for social distancing. We are very mindful of how children’s anxieties may play out in their behaviours and we continue to support these in a positive way. 
  • However, we must also prioritise the safety and well-being of everyone in the building and so if a child repeatedly and deliberately breaches our school expectations around social distancing and behaviour and this is potentially compromising the safety of another member of the school family, you will be contacted by Mr Bowman or Ms Flynn. 

Further Measures

There are further measures not detailed above. In brief, these include:

  • limiting contractors and visitors on site to business-essential only.
  • Creation of additional staff rooms
  • All group staff communication continuing to happen via Teams or email
